The influx of agency interim roumanie workers in France has increased since the country became an EU member state in 2007. The increase is due to a specific labor market that facilitates access by allowing the hiring of undocumented migrants with high professional qualifications. The French reliance on Romanian workers, however, doesn’t reflect a significant change in their overall immigration policies.
National and local French actors use Romanian physicians as gap fillers, especially in hospital departments facing difficulties in recruiting local staff. Their presence alleviates the need to close down departments that could otherwise be closed for lack of resources.
Support Systems: Resources Available for Romanian Workers in France
For Romanian doctors, the move to France is a complex mix of professional and personal considerations. The objective of the present study is to examine how these physicians manage this transition and their role in the healthcare system in France. The data collected in this article is based on an interview with 30 Romanian physicians from several regions of France, including the Paris area. The questionnaire was designed to capture the various aspects of the physician’s professional experience and their impact on their decision to move to France. The analysis was based on a grid that included six questions dealing with the medical studies and qualifications, the career before and during the move to France (in connection or not with a recruitment agency), the motivations for mobility and job satisfaction in France, links with Romania and the status of a work permit.
